Meet the Principal
Carrie Romo began her work as principal of Goodrell Middle School in 2021.
In the Fall of 2020, Romo started as Goodrell’s Principal Intern, a role developed to give employees ready to become new principals the opportunity to serve in the role with enhanced support from the district.
Romo served with DMPS for 15 years and was an Associate Principal at Roosevelt High School before moving to Goodrell. She is bilingual and has been deeply involved in supporting the education community through her work as a middle school teacher, a Culture, Climate Community Coordinator, and leading workshops at national and local conferences on equity in education.
Romo has a bachelor’s degree from Central College in Pella, a master’s degree from Drake University, and a specialist degree in education focused on culturally responsive leadership and instruction along with K-12 principalship from Drake.
“I believe that we will make strides in becoming and anti-bias, anti-racist school through crucial conversations, examination and reimagination of schooling,” Romo said. “I am excited about the opportunity to continue working alongside the staff, students, families and community of Goodrell to ensure our school is indeed the pride of Des Moines.”
